Bristol and South Gloucestershire’s out-of-hours-GP service, Frendoc, is visited by Prime Minister and voted in Top 100 Healthcare Organisations to work for

Gordon Brown

Frendoc the South Gloucestershire and Bristol out-of-hours GP service provider has won a place in the Healthcare 100 Competition, which aims to find the top UK healthcare organisations to work for.

The competition, run by the Nursing Times and the Health Services Journal, placed Frendoc in 79th position and it is the only out-of-hours service featured from more than 300 entries.

Frendoc spokesman, Richard Wootten, said: "The Staff and patients’ views were sought and we are delighted that our first class out-of-hours-service is the only one to make the top 100.

"We are a not-for-profit organisation that employs a small number of motivated full-time staff and sessional GPs, who enjoy flexible hours and pleasant working conditions which brings benefits to our patients."

Gordon Brown

At the end of February Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and Bristol North West MP, Dr Doug Naysmith, visited Frendoc’s new out-of-hours facility, the Greenways Centre in Southmead.

Gordon Brown praised the Frendoc teams ‘excellent work’, saying it was ‘setting a model for the rest of the country’.

Frendoc also operates an out-of-hours clinic on the Frenchay Hospital site and funds and runs a minor injuries unit at Frenchay, where patients can be treated without an appointment.

To use Frendoc patients phone their own GP surgery from 6.30pm to 8.00am, every evening, throughout weekends and over bank holidays and their call is diverted to Frendoc’s operators.
