Local out-of-hours Frendoc GP set to cycle to Paris to raise money for Great Western Air Ambulance

Dr. Armaghan Butt, a Frendoc out-of-hours GP, is set to cycle from London to Paris between 1st and 5th July to raise more than £1,250 for the Great Western Air Ambulance, covering 500km in five days.

The 38-year-old said: "I’m really looking forward to the challenge of riding 85 miles-a-day, particularly having not cycled for 10 years!

"It is really important that the local community come together to do something positive to help save this vital service, which helps save lives."

The Great Western Air Ambulance, launched in June last year, operates seven days-a-week across Bristol, Gloucestershire, Avon, North Somerset, Wiltshire and parts of Somerset.

The service provides a rapid onsite mini A&E facility with trauma-trained medical staff and costs £1.3 million-a-year. A trauma-trained doctor and air paramedic are among the highly specialised crew that take off from a base at Filton airport.

Dr Butt works at Frendoc’s Southmead-based Greenway surgery and the out-of-hours centre based at Frenchay, where it also runs and funds a minor injuries unit.

Frendoc is funded by the NHS and operates a not-for-profit service, ploughing back surplus money into improving facilities for patients.
